Grodno Yeshiva recycled the cans into ... N"ch sefarim

Hachnasas Sifrei Neviim and Ketuvim in the Lithuanian public are common. Usually the fund for its writing comes from a donor who requested to volunteer them Leilui Nishmas one of his relatives.


The Hachnasas Sifrei Neviim and Ketuvim which took place yesterday at Grodno Beer Yaakov, was clearly unusual. Specifically, the funding which was used for writing and the time it took.


This is an initiative started by the students of the Yeshiva – who financed the writing from their own pockets. Every Wednesday at noon, money was collected during lunch for the project. In addition, boxes were scattered for collecting cans and bottles for recycling throughout the yeshiva, and all proceeds were dedicated for funding the Neviim and Ketuvim. For ten years, the collecting funds continued, which were transferred to the Sofer, whenever a decent sum of money was accumulated for writing.

The event was held in the dining room of the yeshiva, where the funds were collected, with the Roshei Yeshiva Hgr"tz Drabkin and Hgr"y Haker and president of the yeshiva Hgr"a Kahneman. The yeshiva students, who completed the project started by former students - who had already gotten married, danced and rejoiced on the exciting occasion, for finally completing the project and welcomed the finished product. During the seuda, the Roshei Yeshiva spoke; they praised the students, and of course spoke in praise of the Torah and event.

Meanwhile, a Hachnasas Sefer Yeshaya was held, written on parchment, for the Yeshiva Gedola Rishon Lezion headed by the Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Yisrael Meir Druck and mashgiach Rabbi Yair Yisraeli. The event was also attended by Rabbi Moshe Nachshoni, city rabbi of Rishon Lezion who spoke at the event.
