Struggle against recruit: Satmar picketed next to Israeli Embassy in New York

Hundreds of Bnei Torah, kollel students from across New York City demonstrated last night (Tuesday) in Manhattan against the conscription of yeshiva students in Israel.

The demonstration began at 47th Street, on 1st Avenue in front of the UN building. Avreichim stood down the street with bags over their bodies and signs in hand, explaining the conscription. Among other things, it was written that in case of such a decree would take place in another country, Israel would claim it's anti-Semitism.

They then started to walk along Second Avenue until 42nd Street, where the Israeli Embassy is located. Due to the length of the marching line, police closed two lanes along four blocks. The march was led by a vehicle with a PA system, which carried explanations for the demonstration and its purposes.

During the march, speeches were said that explained the purpose of the demonstration. The speeches specifically stated that the avreichim were selected to be those to demonstrate, to answer the demand heard in Israel that the kollel students should go out to work.

In addition, Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro spoke in English. Rabbi Shapiro said, "We as Haredim do not want a state at all and would be good for us as before 1948." The march ended with kabalas ol malchus shomayim and the public went back to the kollelim for seder beis.
