Ukraine Police yesterday arrested nine suspected gang members who tried to assassinate the mayor of Kharkov Gennady Carnes a month ago, as reported in the local media yesterday.
Anatoly Dimitriv, local police chief, said at a press conference held on Tuesday that the detainees are suspected of the murder of a businessman and a doctor too.
About a month ago, an attempt to assassinate Jewish mayor of Kharkov failed. An anonymous person fired at close range at the mayor while on a walk in a local park.
The mayor was seriously injured and taken by helicopter for private treatment in Israel at Rambam Hospital in Haifa, where he is recovering from his injuries.
In an interview with Russian media, the mayor said that unless he was transferred to medical care in Israel he would not have survived. A month after the assassination attempt, police arrested the nine suspects.
