Excitement in the Jewish community in Krakow: Rabbi Eliezer Gur Aryeh, son of Rabbi Gur Aryeh of Holon, was named rabbi of the city of Krakow in Poland.

Representatives of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, European rabbis and leaders of the city of Krakow will arrive on Sunday in the "Temple" in Krakow, for the coronation ceremony.

Gur Aryeh lives in Krakow with his wife and four children for eight years and served until a few months ago as an emissary of Chabad in the city.

After the previous rabbi of Krakow, Boaz Pash, decided to leave his post and return to Israel, Jewish community president to Krakow, Tadeusz Jakubowicz decided to appoint Gur Aryeh as the new Chief Rabbi.

Chief Rabbi of Poland, Michael Shudrich asked to bring from Israel Rabbi Avi Baumol and appoint him as a rabbi, but community leaders favored Gur Aryeh who lives in the city anyway.

Both sides took their positions and over a number of months the two served in parallel when Gur Aryeh served as the rabbi of the community and Baumol served as rabbi of the Jewish Community Center.

Now, the two decided that Gur Aryeh will be on duty and on Sunday will take place as stated the official coronation.

Gur Aryeh said that since coming to Krakow as an emissary of Chabad, "I did most of the functions - weddings, funerals, prayers, Torah lessons and more that previous rabbi divided his time between Krakow and Israel. After he left the heads of the community contacted me, a local rabbi who lives here with his family. There were all sorts of objections by various parties who didn’t want a Chabad Rabbi in an official position, so it took a long time but eventually it happens, and to give it official sanction the coronation ceremony will be held on Sunday. "

"This is a big responsibility. This is where world leaders issued psakim to the world. We should make sure that every Jew who lives or visits here this is my responsibility now. In the community there are officially 140 members but the exact number of Jews who are here are at least 400-500 and thousands of tourists every year. "
