After slaughter, and circumcision: dead withholding law in Berlin
פלאש90

Under current law in the city of Berlin, part of the German Federation, in any case of death must wait 48 hours before burial to empower conduct testing, and sometimes even to hold autopsy. This sweeping procedural law leads to a situation where a large part of the deaths in the country the dead body is withheld sometimes two days before burial even if the death is natural.

This is contrary to Jewish law that the burial should be performed quickly after death. According to Jewish law, but only in extraordinary cases a burial permit to wait for a day or a little more. Prevention of burial for longer is perceived by Jewish law as an attack on the dignity of the deceased. Note that this rule is also kept out of Israel.

As mentioned, these days Rabbi Yehuda Teichtel and other senior officials in the Jewish community are trying to promote a proposal to amend the Parliament of the State of Berlin that would allow burial after 24 hours as required by Jewish law after the approval of a physician that death is natural. As part of efforts to promote the proposal to amend the law Rabbi Benzion Teichtel recently met Mr. Brown, chairman of the department of religion in the Jewish community and a member of the community, with the Director General of the Ministry of Health of the State of Berlin to discuss the submission of the proposal. Also, Rabbi Teichtel dealings with Muslim communities in the city which expressed willingness to support the law.

"Conversations we had with the Ministry of Health in Berlin and lawmakers in parliament we find the will to come to meet us on that. Fact, following the current law every case of death, even a natural death, the Jewish community becomes automatically a struggle with the authorities to release the body," says Rabbi Teichtel, adding that "all in our references we always insist the authorities that the current situation violates the freedom of religion of the Jews and that changing the law to deliver justice and that the situation ".
