The Center for Local Authority, has announced a general strike all over Israel starting tomorrow, until further notice. Local city municipalities across the country will be striking as a sign of protest to the recently approved annual state budget, which has cut out 5.75% of local municipalities annual grant.

Heads of local municipalities sent a joint letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu, Finance Minister Kachlon and Minister of interior Deri, stating “we will not allow such a wide budget cut of 250 million Nis. If the finance ministry won’t reverse the cuts, we will be strike starting tomorrow, until further notice”.

As well, the center also sent out letters to municipalities nationwide instructing them on how to go about the strike. The letter says “all local services are to be suspended starting tomorrow morning Dec,21 20016, at 6 AM: services will not be provided by municipality institutions, including welfare services. Employees are to arrive at work and refrain from providing any services”.

Other services set to be suspended, include, sanitation, landscaping and any educational service which are under the jurisdiction of local municipalities, such as transportation to and from schools.

Special-ed institutions will not be affected by the strike and will function as usual.
